  Maritime Security Training - MCA (STCW ISPS) Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course

 

 
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) accredited, STCW ISPS Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course is designed for individuals who have designated security duties under the Ship Security Plan. The Course has been developed inline with the Manila Amendments of 2010. All seafarers nominated with security duties within the SSP will need to complete this course prior to January 2014. The course is fully-comprehensive and information-packed and is instructed by MCA-Accredited Trainers.
 
The STCW Convention and Code as amended by the Manila amendments (2010) contains new requirements regarding security training. This training is required by all personnel employed or engaged onboard ships to which the ISPS Code applies. These Regulations state: "All seafarers with designated security duties within the ship security plan will be required to hold a 'Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Certificate, either from experience or new training".
 
PLEASE NOTE: Those conducting Personal Close Protection and Ship Protection Duties are currently required to hold an MCA approved or recognised Certificate of Proficiency in Designated Security Duties.

Regulation VI/6, paragraph 4 and Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 6 to 8 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended  and incorporates Proficiency in Security Awareness laid down in Regulation VI/6 and  Section A-VI/6 of the STCW Convention and Code.

Course Requirement:

The STCW Convention and Code as amended by the Manila amendment 2010 contains new requirements regarding security training. These Regulations came into force on the 1st January 2012. This training must be undertaken by all seafarers and delegated Ship Security Personnel on ship who have designated duties under the official Ships Security Plan (SSP). The training is carried out by Maritime & Coastguard Agency (a division of the UK Department for Transport) Maritime Security Accredited Trainers possessing the highest level of maritime security experience.

NOTE: Those Conducting Personal Close Protection and Ship Protection Duties:
Those carrying out personal close protection and/or ship protection duties on ISPS Code compliant ships will have to hold an MCA approved or recognised Certificate of Proficiency in Designated Security Duties. Please refer to section 3.9 of "Interim Guidance to UK Flagged Shipping on the Use of Armed Guards to Defend Against the Threat of Piracy in Exceptional Circumstances" for further guidance.

Course Aim:

On completion of the Training, you will have sufficient knowledge and understanding and skills enabling you to undertake designated security duties on board ship including the ability to (A) Maintain the conditions set out in the Ships Security Plan (B) Recognise security risk and threats (C) Undertake regular security inspections (D) Properly use security equipment and systems.

Entry Requirements: Minimum Age: 18 | No Serious Criminal Convictions
Assessment Methods: Continuous assessment will be conducted during the course theory with Q&A sessions throughout the course. Students are actively encouraged to participate and contribute where they are able.

Course Costs & Numbers: Cost: Contact us for a quote | Delegates: Maximum of 20 Delegates (Per Group). For groups that exceed ten delegates, an additional charge will be added per delegate. This is due to the requirement for an extra Instructor.
